<abstract>
<p>Theoretically, the paper draws on conceptualisations of fluid identities and
space; methodologically, it is informed by positioning analysis. The case of
the delinquent youth clique &quot;FX Fighters&quot; shows that members produce their
neighborhood as a challenging space and simultaneously position themselves
in this space: sometimes as powerful and fearless youths who dictate rules
and keep others in check, sometimes as a youth clique whose vengeance fails.
In addition, the paper demonstrates how assaults of violence are legitimated
and normalised. In order to show the variance of such legitimating
strategies and related subject positionings, material from additional group
discussions on violent practices in public space is presented. Finally, the
production of subjectivity as part of data construction is reflected.</p>
