Short summary
With a new funding period approaching, we examined INTERREG cooperation in the European Alps. We analyzed themes, budgets, and geographic locations to understand drivers. Findings show that cross-border projects address topics such as tourism or culture, while transnational projects target transportation or land use. These patterns reflect spatial structures, long-standing links, and local diversity. Lessons for 2028+ are to build on continuity and regional strengths to achieve lasting impact.
